What a year we have had! It all started with last
year's football National Championship!!! I still can't believe how
epic a game the Rose Bowl became. We are so lucky to have a great
athletics program to compliment our "University of the First
Class"! It was so fun to attend the games last year. And
when not at the games, the Games
Watches were equally as fun. There's no place I'd rather be
when watching a game than with fellow Texas
Exes. Hundreds turned out for big games like at 4 Ohio State
and vs. 1 Southern California. Not to mention the crowds that showed
up for the Oklahoma and Texas A&M games. The whole season had
great turnouts, including the annual UT/A&M
Hoot-n-Holler & Hex Rally. Fall 2005 was truly a special
time!
One of the reasons the Rose Bowl Game Watch was so great
was because of the involvement and sponsorship from Time Warner
Cable. They really helped celebrate the championship, as well as
help raise funds for our organization. It was great to start 2006 in
partnership with them.
The first half of 2006 also was witness to some
successful events for us, such as our Texas
Independence Day Celebration which was held at Joe Cotten's
Barbecue. The Awards Banquet
was also special because we able to bring home a local sports hero, on the
eve of his induction into the NCAA Baseball Hall of Fame. Brooks
Kieschnick, former Texas
and Carroll High School standout, spoke to our membership at the
Banquet. It was so great to have Brooks share some of his fondest
memories with us.
The Awards Banquet
also brought the inaugural awards for Corporate Sponsor, New
Member, and Longhorn of the
Year awards. Time Warner Cable deservedly won for Corporate
Sponsor. Likewise, Melanie E. Hibbetts won as New
Member. I can't tell you what an honor it was to win the Longhorn
of the Year award. To be recognized by my peers in this
manner, it was a true highlight for me. I was very humbled. I
can only hope to live up to the distinction.
Of course 2005-2006 also saw us hold a successful Senior
Sendoff combined with the first annual Football
Kickoff Classic. Plus, Thirsty
Thursdays returned! It was a year of reconnecting with
Longhorns all over the community. I can't wait for this coming year,
as I look forward to continuing our momentum built over the past twelve
months. I think we could make next year our best one yet!
As always, I would like to extend a personal invitation
to everyone and anyone to join us at our events throughout the year.
We welcome anyone who feels he/she is a Longhorn at heart. We
celebrate each other, as well as The
University of Texas! There's no better way to do so then by
becoming active in the Texas
Exes! Thanks again to all who are involved with our
organization. I look forward to serving you again this coming
year. Hook 'em Horns!
