CORPUS CHRISTI - Fans of Islander Women's basketball may have a treat
headed their way. Islanders Coach Rob Robinson is trying to get the
Lady
Longhorns to play at the American Bank Center next season.
The Islanders lost all three previous meetings with Texas, all games
played at the Erwin Center in Austin. Texas
Women's Athletic Director
Christine Plonsky said she's been discussing it with new Texas Coach
Gail Goestenkors, who loves to play in-state rivalry games.
"Gail is very open-minded. This is a big state. I tease her all
the time," Plonsky said. "You know Duke, you have to
go 30 minutes up the road to play Carolina and back. Take some road
trips. We've got plenty of room in this state. I think she'll consider
it."
If the a deal gets done, the game will be the front end of a home and
home series, with the second game set for Austin in 2008. The Isles are
also trying to line up a similar set with Louisville.
