Texas Athletics Directors Visit Corpus Christi

Dodds and Christine Plonsky Come to Town

The
University
of Texas Athletics Directors (Men's ) DeLoss
Dodds and (Women's) Christine
Plonsky were the keynote speakers for the annual Texas
Exes Corpus Christi Awards
Banquet on June 14 at the Corpus Christi Country Club.
The
event kicked off with cocktails and was followed by a dinner and a silent
auction.
Ronald E. Lowe, Vice President - Scholarship, began the awards portion of the
program by recognizing 2007 Laura
Vasquez Memorial Award winner Roland Plata, and Scholarship
winners Erin Sheehan and Bryant Gajdos. All will be a
freshman at The University in the fall.
David
R. Bridges continued the awards program by recognizing O'Neal's
Welding & Fabrication, Inc. as the 2007 Corporate
Sponsor of the Year.
Nicole
R. Cunningham received the 2007 New
Member of the Year award. She was introduced by 2006 recipient
Melanie
Hibbetts.
William T. Flynn
received the 2007 Longhorn of the
Year award, which was awarded by 2006 recepient J. Michael
Carrizales III.
Michael
Carrizales also individually recognized each Texas
Exes Corpus Christi Board Member for their respective dedication
and hard work. The Board of Directors
consisted of J. Michael Carrizales III, Chairman and President; Vice
Presidents: Vernon L. Reinhardt (Membership), Ronald E. Lowe
(Scholarship), Elizabeth L. Reining (Fellowship), Barry L. O'Neal
(Events), Michelle M. Carey (Marketing); Lifetime Directors: David
R. Bridges, Marynelle Davis-Stamper, Janis Herren); Senior
Director: Kevin J. Schaber; Directors: Melanie E. Hibbetts, Stephen
C. McMains, Brian Patterson, M.D., Kimberly M. Perez,
William T. Flynn; Executive Assistant: Nicole R. Cunningham.
The
speaking program of the evening began with William Flynn introducing
Michael Carrizales, who gave a great description of where Texas Exes is
heading in the future.
Melanie
Hibbetts introduced Christine Plonsky, who spoke about the recent success
of the Women's program, including the recent hiring of Women's Basketball
Head Coach Gail
Goestenkors.
Barry O'Neal
introduced DeLoss Dodds, who spoke about the second-to-none Men's program,
as well as the recent renovations to Darrell K. Royal-Texas Memorial
Stadium.
The night concluded with
the drawing of two raffle prizes. Ronaldo Lourdes of
Kingsville, TX was the winner of a pair of 2007 Texas Longhorns Football
Home Season tickets, courtesy of J. Michael Carrizales III. Mary
Berrones of Corpus Christi, TX was the winner of a Texas
Exes themed barbecue pit, courtesy of O'Neal's Welding &
Fabrication, Inc..
Proceeds from the
event go to the Texas Exes Corpus
Christi Scholarship Fund benefiting local high school students.
