Associate Athletics Director and T-Association Director
David McWilliams was the keynote speaker for the annual Texas Exes Awards Banquet on July 31st at the Corpus Christi Country Club.
McWilliams was a member of the 1963 Texas Football National Championship
team, as well as Head Football Coach from 1987-1991, leading the Longhorns to a Southwest Conference Championship, as well as two bowl victories.
The event kicked off with cocktails and was followed by a dinner and a silent auction.
J. Michael Carrizales III, Chairman and President, began the night by recognizing
Barry and Beatrice O'Neal as namesakes for Corpus Christi's first ever endowed
Texas Exes scholarship.
Ronald E. Lowe, Vice President - Scholarship, began the awards portion of the program by recognizing the first ever
Barry L. & Beatrice O'Neal Scholar Michael Cortez, and the 2008
Camp Texas Scholar Jonathan Holdforth. Both scholars will be incoming freshman at
The University of Texas this coming Fall.

& Billiards was recognized as the 2008 Corporate Sponsor of the
Year. Harrison Todd, owner and operator, accepted the award from Barry O'Neal of O'Neal's Welding & Fabrication, the 2007 recipient.
Daniel E. Garner received the 2008 New Member of the Year award. He was introduced by Ronald Lowe.
Mary L. Flynn received the 2008 Longhorn of the Year award, which was awarded by 2007
recipient William T. Flynn.
Michael Carrizales also individually recognized each Texas Exes Board Member for their respective dedication and hard work. The Board of Directors consisted of J. Michael Carrizales III, Chairman and President; Vice Presidents: William T. Flynn (Membership), Ronald E. Lowe (Scholarship), Barry L. O'Neal (Events); Directors:
Stephen C. McMains, Mary L. Flynn, Daniel E. Garner; Executive Assistant:
Nicole R. Cunningham; Lifetime Directors: David R. Bridges,
Marynelle Davis-Stamper, Janis Herren.
The speaking program of the evening began with William Flynn introducing Michael Carrizales, who spoke about the upcoming Fall season, as well as what it means to be a Longhorn.
Barry O'Neal introduced David McWilliams, who spoke about his many years involved with
The University of Texas, the second-to-none
Men's & Women's athletics
programs, as well as the recent renovations to Darrell K. Royal-Texas Memorial
Stadium.
The night concluded with the drawing of wonderful raffle prizes.
Howard Lipstreu or Corpus Christi, TX was the big winner of the night, taking home a pair of 2008
Texas Longhorns Football Home Season
tickets, courtesy of J. Michael Carrizales III, and a Texas Exes-themed barbecue
pit, courtesy of O'Neal's Welding & Fabrication, Inc.. Other
big winners included Patrick Griffin of Atlanta, GA and Carson
Reichert of Austin, TX.
Proceeds from the event go to the Texas Exes Corpus Christi
Scholarship Fund benefiting local high school students.
